Confirmation

Congratulations to the girls and boys of Sixth Class who received

the sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday April 29th. They had a

great day!

The Titanic Project

In Fifth and Sixth Class we decided to find out more about the

Titanic to coincide with the anniversary of the tragedy.  We

worked in groups and used the internet and local libraries to

gather information. We learned about the construction of the

ship, the passengers, it's fateful journey and it's legacy. Maria,

Michaela and Amy brought in interesting books about the tragedy.

Rory discovered a letter sent by a passenger who was on the

Titanic. Caoimhe visited the Titanic exhibition in both Belfast and

Cobh during her Easter holidays and reported back to the class.

She brought us back copies of the "Cork Examiner" from April

1912 which gave accounts of the tragedy. We wrote poems and

reports about the Titanic and we put all of our information on

our project wall.

Handwriting Competition

Congratulations to Nessa in 5th Class who came third in the

INTO Handwriting Competition. We are very proud of her!

History/Geography/Science Field Trips

We went on our annual history field trip to Kilmacduagh Monastic

Settlement on March 2nd. We discovered lots of interesting

information about St. Colman, Viking invasions and life in the

locality in the 10th and 11th centuries. We gathered alot of data

about the Round Tower, the Bishop's house and the churches. We

now consider ourselves to be experts on the differences between

Gothic and Romanesque architecture! We all had a great day.

Last year we went to Tyrone House where we learned about the

St. George family and we explored their amazing home.

We are lucky to have the Burren and the seashore as local

natural resources and we regularly go on field trips to both

locations.

To see photos of our field trips visit our photo gallery.

Sports Activities

We had great fun at the University of Limerick Activity Centre.

We tried a number of new activites including canoeing, archery

and trying to stay afloat on a raft in the middle of a lake! We

also played indoor soccer. Photos of our trip are in the photo gallery.

Project Work

We recently finished our project on Norway and it is proudly

displayed in our classroom for all to see.
